The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), through the vehicle of sports, provides youth with an opportunity to practice Christian attitudes and responsibilities and to become friends with other children throughout the diocese. CYO activities should be examples of the meaning of Christian sportsmanship." (CYO Code of Conduct)
Students enrolled at St. Jarlath School are eligible to participate in the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). St Jarlath CYO program currently includes: Cross Country, Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball, and Girls’ Volleyball.
We are off to a great start with many runners wanting to join our team! As we begin this new season, there are some important things to share with you about our CYO cross-country program.
There is a $10 fee that helps to pay for uniforms and meets. Please be sure to send the money to the office. Thank you!
What to Bring to Practice
Please be sure your child wears running shoes, shorts, t-shirt, and water bottle. On hot days, sunscreen and a hat are strongly recommended.
Practice will start on Tuesday, September 6th. Practice will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays. On Mondays we will meet at Joaquin Miller Park from 4 pm to 5 pm. Tuesdays practice will be at the school from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. Parents are to bring their students to Joaquin Miller Park for the Monday practices. Please make arraignments to carpool with other parents if necessary. Students must be promptly picked up right after practice.
What to Bring to the Meets
The distance of each race is approximately 1 mile (except for the K-2 race which is 1⁄2 of a mile). Runners in grades K-2 may choose to run in one of the races above or the “Fun Run” which is held after the last race. For the Relay Meet, runners will be placed on teams that may consist of runners from other schools.
